Why Evaluate?

Why a neuropsychological evaluation?

Neuropsychological evaluations can be an important component in helping to accurately diagnose and design effective treatments. These evaluations identify strengths and weaknesses in IQ, memory, language skills, problem solving, attention, impulse control, and other cognitive skills that are related to behavior and learning. Often times, children with behavior problems, attention difficulties, head injuries, or learning difficulties have deficits in one or more of these areas, which can affect their ability to be successful with everyday functioning and social interaction. Learning a child’s strengths and weaknesses can help parents, therapists, and the school design better treatments for a child with learning or behavior difficulties.

Why a psycho-educational evaluation?

Psycho-educational evaluations assess a child’s learning potential as well as specific academic strengths and weaknesses. These evaluations help to identify whether a child has a specific learning disability such as dyslexia, and they are an important part of identifying appropriate academic interventions or instruction to facilitate learning. Early identification of learning problems is key to a child’s later academic success, and a psycho-educational evaluation helps to identify the specific reasons a child is having problems learning.

Why a comprehensive autism evaluation?

Comprehensive autism evaluations are beneficial for confirming the actual diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and for assisting in the treatment of individuals with ASD. These evaluations assess current levels of symptoms, social awareness, and level of impairment. The results can be used to identify specific programs and strategies that will improve social skills and increase learning.
